Homeschooled Kids Blog Carnival # 17 Poems and Rabbits

Rabbits and poems

Today I am hosting the Carnival of home schooled kids. The first time I participated in the carnival, I wrote about poems. Remember the poems post? Well, I have some more poems to tell you. At the end, I’ll show you one of my favorite rabbit poems.

But first let's talk about the carnival. Let's start with Araya and her Cat Rescue story.

Our next post is Keibug with Bravery.

Katelyn has two entries this week. her first is part of a macro contest.

Taylor shares a video about How to Train your Dragon.

Gecko tells us What I Feel Like Saying to the Internet.

Vienna shares an entry from her day book.

Now, I will show you a few poems by Shel Silverstein So, here is the first poem , called What did?

What did the carrot say to the wheat?
“‘Lettuce’ rest, I’m feeling ‘beet’.”
What did the paper say to the pen?
“I feel quite all ‘write’, my friend.”
What did the teapot say to the chalk?
Nothing, you silly… teapots can’t talk!

The next carnival entry is Soccer Cat with her post about Harry Potter.

Here is Story Girl with a Thanksgiving Letter.

Nate wants to know what you think about Thanksgiving.

Neon Glitter has been Living Life on the Edge.

Our next participant is E who is new to the carnival and part of her post is a poem which fits great with our theme.

Speaking of poems, here is another poem by Shel Silverstein, called, Crowded Tub.

There's too many kids in this tub.
There's too many elbows to scrub.
I just washed a behind
That I'm sure wasn't mine
There's too many kids in this tub.

Silverstein drew funny pictures to go with some of his poems. Crowded Tub shows a tub with
a dozen or so arms and legs hanging out. I wanted to share his poem Surprise here, but was unable to as the picture is part of the joke of the poem.

Katelyn's second offering is some info on The Erie Canal.

Curly Ben is next with Things you shouldn't Eat.

Akiko has drawn a picture of a cat. Which cat? A Witch Cat.

Dancer Girl gives us Chapter 3 in her Distance to Travel Series. Please enjoy The Storm.

Brix N Pieces presents The Mysterious Ticking Noise

I decided to write and illustrate a poem in the same style as Shel Silverstein, based on his poem, It's dark in here. I would have liked to put in that poem in too, but it is also based on the picture. Here goes...

Kitten writes about her progress with NANOWRIMO.

Mental Weight tells about a recent trip to Lego Land.

Siopaospawn shares about A visit to a Museum.

Elijah give us the scoop on the hoop with Wii Basketball.

Alex and Leperdy talk about King Henry VIII.

To introduce the next poem. I thought I would show picture of of an Egg and a Button.

Some poems rhyme like, What did. Here is a poem that doesn’t rhyme by Carl Sandburg called Eggs and Buttons:

Eggs may speak to buttons- that is correct.
Buttons, however, must not speak to eggs.
Not unless an egg needs a button.
Then the button may say to the egg,
Can I be any help of you?

We are approaching the finish line and here is Dodgedude with his 1969 Dodge Charger.

Benny reviews the movie, Superman Returns.

Captain Jinx AKA Amiri AKA Sniper (By the way what does AKA mean? I am a simple stuffed bunny and no abbreviations expert.) asks What's Up?

Buttercup tells us why she is 2 busy 2 blog.

Life in Stories falls in with Winter Wonder Land, which works perfectly with the next poem.

An d now the part you've all been waiting for, Do Rabbits have Christmas? By Aileen Fisher:

Do rabbits have Christmas,

I wonder, I wonder?

They have little spruces

to celebrate under,

where snow has made pompons

with silvery handles,

and frost has made tinsel

and icicle candles.

Do rabbits have presents,

I wonder, I wonder?

They have little fir trees

to celebrate under.

But do they have secrets

and smiles on their faces?

Let's go put some carrots

in rabbit-y places!

Well, I hope you enjoyed this! Alice
